Harold Gray Taylor

80 year old Harold Gray Taylor of Mount Juliet passed away Thursday at Tennova Healthcare in Lebanon. He was owner and contractor for Mount Juliet Home Builders, a member of Big Brothers of Mount Juliet, and the Silver Springs Baptist Church. The funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Russ Stevens will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Saturday from 4-7 p.m. and Sunday from 1 p.m. until the funeral at 2 p.m. Taylor was preceded in death by his wife, Vella Rhea Taylor and parents, Charles Edward and Verdie Hayes Taylor. Survivors include three children, Larry Douglas and Sandra Taylor of Murfreesboro, Jennifer and David Smith of Lebanon, and Lisa and Ed Spurlock of Hendersonville. Carol Ann Storie age 65 of Smithville, passed away Thursday afternoon at St. Thomas DeKalb Hospital. She was born December 31, 1951 to her parents, the late Donald and Opal Manis Skeen. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 1 son, James Casey Reagan and 1 brother, Bob Skeen. Carol was a member of Covenant Baptist Church and worked as a secretary in the automotive factory industry. Robbie Geraldine Curtis

Robbie Geraldine Curtis age 89 of Watertown died Tuesay morning, Sept. 19, 2017 at Quality Health Care in Lebanon. Born Sept. 29, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Delbert Denton, Sr. and Willie Ola Hickey Denton. Jerry was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Van Curtis in 1997. She was a 1946 graduate of Watertown High School and a retired employee of DeKalb Telephone. She is survived by a daughter, Vickie Barrett of Birmingham, AL; sons, John L. (Becky) Curtis of Marietta, GA and Todd (Mary Lee) Curtis of Watertown; grandchildren, Jennifer Amanda Barrett of Hanceville, AL and Kyle Allen Curtis of Watertown; great granddaughter, Bella Michelle Whipple of Birmingham, AL; and brother, Delbert (Kay) Denton, Jr. of Lebanon. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 21, 2017 at Hunter Funeral Home in Watertown. Visitation 5-7 p.m. Wednesday and prior to services Thursday. Interment at New Hope Cemetery.

Henry Elzie Cantrell

95 year old Henry Elzie Cantrell of Smithville passed away Tuesday at NHC Smithville. He was a farmer, Baptist and a Veteran of World War II. The funeral will be Friday at 1 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Phillip Summerford will officiate and burial will be in the New Union Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 4-8 p.m. and Friday from 10 a.m. until the service at 1 p.m. He was preceded in death by his parents, Horace and Eunice Young Cantrell. Twelve siblings, Effie Head, Ruth Binkley, Jeffie Humphrey, Resie Taylor, Horace, Jr. Cantrell, Fate Cantrell, Arlie Cantrell, Doris Cantrell, Leslie Cantrell, James Cantrell, Gentry Cantrell, and Charles Cantrell. Survivors include a sister, Ethel Redmon of McMinnville. Two brothers, Dennie Cantrell of McMinnville, Billy and Linda Cantrell of Smithville. Several nieces and nephews. Johnnie Lee Davis, Jr.

Johnnie Lee Davis, Jr. age 45 of Rickman, passed away Sunday morning, September 17, 2017 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He was born July 29, 1972 to his parents, Johnny Lee Davis, Sr. and Margaret Hensley Davis. Johnnie was a nursery worker. He is survived by 4 children, Megan Harchenko of Sparta, Chris Davis, Brittany Zimmerman and Kayla Ervin all of Smithville; 8 grandchildren, LeSean, Saraya and Lyric Harville, Kwan Harchenko, Carson and Canaan Davis, Brantley and Lincoln Cameron; mother, Margaret Davis of Rickman; father, Johnny L. Davis, Sr. of Smithville; 3 sisters, Sheila Davis of Rickman, Angela Thompson of Baxter and Crystal Murphy; 1 brother, James Davis of Alabama. The family has honored Johnnie’s request to be cremated and a memorial service will be held 11AM Tuesday, September 26, 2017 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Nathan Thomason officiating. Flora Ann Maxwell

Flora Ann Maxwell age 77 of McMinnville, passed away Sunday morning, September 17, 2017 at St. Thomas River Park Hospital in McMinnville. She was born September 12, 1940 to her parents, the late James Corbit and Treasie Hale Davis. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 2 siblings, James Bobby Davis and Patsy Davis. She was a homemaker and a Freewill Baptist. Survivors include 1 daughter, Cynthia Davis and Stanley Paul Maxwell both of McMinnville; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Graveside services and interment will be 10:AM Tuesday, September 19, 2017 at Long Cemetery on Highway 30 with Bro. Michael Hale officiating. Family and friends will meet at the cemetery for the graveside service, no visitation will be held at the funeral home. Rita Joan Prince

Rita Joan Prince, age 63, a Smithville, TN resident and DeKalb County, TN native was born July 3, 1954 and died September 16, 2017 in St. Thomas River Park Hospital following a sudden illness.
She was a secretary at Bybee Branch Church of Christ, where she was a member, and daughter of the late Clyde and Thelma Cantrell Redmon. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sister, Trena Hayes.
Mrs. Prince was married June 18, 1971 to Ricky Prince who survives. In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Amy Prince and Holly Prince both of Smithville; brother-in-law, Johnny Hayes of Pegram, TN; aunts and uncle, Edith Redmon and Dorothy and Sanders Webb all of Smithville; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Don and Susie Griffith and Ronnie and Denise Prince all of McMinnville, TN and Jerry and Jerelene Prince of Lavergne, TN; and several nephews, nieces and cousins.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at Central Church of Christ with Steve Hillis and Tony Lawrence to officiate. Interment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday and 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at High’s.

80 year old Albert Thweatt of Smithville passed away Saturday at Centennial Medical Center. He was a Christian and a retired construction worker. The funeral will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Bobby Thomason will officiate and burial will follow in the Jefferson Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 2-8 p.m. and Thursday until the service at 11 a.m. Thweatt was preceded in death by his parents, Beecher and Lillie Thweatt; mother, Magelene Redmon Thweatt, and a brother, Mack Thweatt. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Linda White Thweatt of Smithville. Two sons, Kenny Beecher Thweatt of North Carolina and Ralph Allen Thweatt of Ohio. A daughter, Debi Thweatt of Florida. Four grandchildren. Three great grandchildren. One brother, Farris and Barbara Thweatt of Smithville. Four sisters, Joel and Harold Dawes of Smithville, Jannie and Clayton Christenberry of Knoxville, Judy and Albert Warren of Smithville, and Sue and Larry Taylor of Lebanon. Robert Whitney Keyt

Robert Whitney Keyt age 56 of Orange Grove Center in Chattanooga, TN passed away Saturday morning, September 16, 2017 at Memorial Hospital in Chattanooga. Bob was born May 11, 1961 to his parents, the late W.C. Keyt and Antha Keyt. In addition to his Father, W.C. Keyt, he was preceded in death by his sister, Janice Marie Keyt. He was of the Baptist Faith. Survivors include his mother, Antha Keyt of Crossville; 1 brother, Tim Keyt of Cookeville; 2 nephews, Timothy Keyt of Fountain Hills, AZ and Matthew Hodges of Nashville and his family at Orange Grove Center. Dorothy Reis

96 year old Dorothy Reis of Hendersonville passed away on September 14, 2017 at NHC of Smithville. She was a life long member of the Episcopal Church. There will be a celebration of life service held at St. Joseph of Arimathea Episcopal Church (103 Country Club Drive Hendersonville, TN. 37075) on Friday, September 22. Visitation will be from 9-10 a.m. with the church service to begin at 10 a.m.
Dorothy is survived by 1 son-Sterling Batte, III of Cookeville; 1 Daughter-Barbara Parks of Utah; Step-Daughters-Becky Davis and Barbara Thompson of Smithville; 5 Grandchildren; 11 Great Grandchildren; and Special Caregiver-Judy Chastang.
She was preceded in death by her parents-Jeptha William and Willie Quin East; Husbands-Dr. Sterling A. Batte, II and William Arthur Reis; Grandson-Issac Parks.
Dot, as she was called by her friends, had a long career as a social worker with the state of Tennessee. She was an avid UT fan and attended games into her late 80’s. She loved to travel having toured all continents but one.
