Carl Stanton Young

Mr. Carl Stanton Young, age 83 of Goleta, California, formerly of Sparta, Tennessee, passed away August 2, 2017.
Mr. Young was born February 25, 1934 in DeKalb County to the late Oscar & Ollie Mae Adcock Young. He was a locksmith. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his loving wife Charlotte Louise Young; son Michael Stanton Young; brothers Calbert, Barnett and Harold Young; sisters Ruth Taylor, Clayton Cope and a son-in-law Mark Warrick.
Survivors include his children, Carl Douglas (San Juana) Young of Sparta, Stephen (Holly) Moore of California, Linda Warrick of Colorado and Cheryl (Boyd) Moore-Hernandez of California.
Sisters and brother: Edmonda Stephens, Dora (Dan) Cummings and Oscar “Jr” Young all of Sparta
Sister-in-law: Nora Young of Smithville
Nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive
Funeral services will be conducted 1:00pm Saturday, August 12, 2017 from the Indian Mound Baptist Church with burial in Indian Mound Cemetery in DeKalb County. The family will receive friends from 11:00am until time of the service at the church. Carl’s grandson Jarred Young will officiate.

Janice Hicks

Janice Hicks age 67 of Smithville, passed away Thursday morning, August 3, 2017 at NHC HealthCare Center. She was born August 15, 1949 to her parents, the late Earl German and Mary Adamson Hicks. Janice worked as a greeter at Wal-Mart and was a member of New Life United Pentecostal Church. Survivors include 2 daughters, Shannon Williams of Morrison and Cristy (Doug) Judkins of Smithville; 5 grandchildren; 5 step-grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Linda Jackson of Ashland City and Cherry Petty of Bluff Springs. Funeral services will be conducted 2 PM Monday, August 7, 2017 at New Life United Pentecostal Church with Bro. Dwayne Cornelius and Bro. Michael Hale officiating and burial to follow in Poplar Hill Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be on Monday from noon until the time of the service at 2 PM, at the Church. Elmus Johnson

75 year old Elmus Johnson of Smithville passed away Wednesday at his residence. He was a member of Trinity Assembly of God and a retired owner of Smithville Food Mart. The funeral will be Friday at 2 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral. Michael Campbell and Bernard Houk will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Thursday from 3-8 p.m. and Friday from 10 a.m. until the service at 2 p.m. He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Johnson; parents, Lonnie and Gladys Wright Johnson; and two brothers, Leamon and Kenneth Johnson. Survivors include two sons, Jayson and Meshia Johnson and Brad Johnson of Smithville. Grandchildren, Karen Johnson of Smithville, Lydia Price of Lebanon, and Christopher Price of Georgia. A great grandchild, Brantley Brooks and five sisters-in-law, Betty Jo and Aubrey Wright, Mildred Johnson, Jessie Mae Johnson all of Smithville, Willette Hale of Alexandria, and Joyce Hale of Smithville. Chris Sean Young

Chris Sean Young age 22 formally of Smithville passed away on July 23, 2017 in California. He was preceded in death by his biological mother, Cindy Fox Riddle; uncle John Bowlin; maternal great-grandparents, David and Tursey Jennings. He was self-employed. Survivors include his maternal grandparents, Penny and Kenzie Seals of Rogersville, TN; sisters, Haley Riddle of Greenville; great-aunt, Lola Callahan of Chuckey; adoptive father and mother, Darryl and Kimberly Young of Smithville; adoptive siblings, Elizabeth Atnip, Keith Carter and Samara Morgan all of Smithville and Joe Jones of Michigan; 2 nieces and 5 nephews and many friends. The family has honored Chris’s request to be cremated. Visitation will be held Thursday, August 3, 2017 from 6 PM until 7 PM, with a Memorial Service at 7 PM with Bro. Dwayne Cornelius officiating. Jacky Dale Beckham

Jacky Dale Beckham age 61 of Smithville passed away Monday, July 31, 2017 at his residence. He was born June 27, 1956 to his parents, the late Ralph and Shirley Scruggs Beckham. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Shawn Beckham. Jacky volunteered with God’s Pantry and was affiliated with the Sink Creek Missionary Baptist Church. He is survived by 1 son, Chris Beckham of Mt. Juliet; 5 grandchildren, Jordan, Hannah, Amber, Carter and Caden; 3 cousins, Libby, Gary and Ralph Rich. Graveside services will be conducted 2 PM Thursday, August 3, 2017 at DeKalb Memorial Gardens with Bro. Thomas Hale officiating. There will be no visitation at the funeral home. Judy Wilson Copeland

Judy Wilson Copeland age 75 of Morrison, passed away Monday morning, July 31, 2017 at Centennial Medical Center. She was born April 7, 1942 to her parents, the late Pete and Dortha Atnip Wilson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 1 sister, Sherri Cantrell and 1 brother, Glenn Wilson. Judy was a Baptist and the owner of Creative Paradise in Morrison. She leaves to cherish her memory, 4 children, Vicky Jones Lowry of Rock Island, Jimmy R. Jones, Jr. of Morrison, Pam Jones of Atlanta, and Shannon Dewayne Cobble of Morrison; 8 grandchildren, Kesha Welborn of Atlanta, Jacquline Jones of McMinnville, Leslie Hancock of Atlanta, Daniel Conn of Atlanta, Tia Jones of Columbia, Cheyenne Hudgins of Hendersonville, Kevin Cobble and Timothy Cobble both of McMinnville; 8 great-grandchildren, Brittany Brown, Gabrielle Welborn, Gracie Harris, Brandon and Nathaniel Rosenthal, Ashley Hancock, Kayden and Kameron Cobble; 1 great-great-grandson, Haiden Welborn; 4 sisters, Wanda Day Harrelson of Gay, GA, Jackie (Bruce) Carter of Murfreesboro, Linda (J.T.) Gwendolyn Gail Sandell

Gwendolyn Gail Sandell age 55 of Smithville and a native of Dayton, TN, passed away Saturday morning, July 29, 2017 at her residence. She was born October 27, 1961 to her parents, Cecil and Helen Chandler Aurthor. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Wayne Phillips; 2 sisters, Angie Rose and Terri Thurman and 1 grandson, Tucker Lee Crane. Mrs. Sandell was a CNA with Rhea County Medical Center. She is survived by her husband, Bill Sandell of Smithville; son, Joshua Lee (Brittany) Crane of Dayton; 1 grandson, Tanner Lee Crane; sister, Connie Brock; 2 nieces, Nikki Rose and Erin Rose. Latasha Renea Ballew age 35 of Alexandria, died Sunday evening, July 30, 2017 at Summit Medical Center in Hermitage. Born May 27, 1982 in
Lebanon, Latasha was a graduate of Dekalb Co. High School and was employed as a pharmacy technician. She is survived by her son, Hunter
Lynn Ballew; mother, Glenda (Roger Barrett) Hutchinson; father, Ricky (Darlene) Hutchinson; sister, Amanda Hutchinson all of Alexandria;
grandparents, Dorothy Hutchinson of Watertown and Faye Smith of Alexandria; nephew, Ethan Marshall and niece, Hannah Huber. She was
preceded in death by her grandfathers, Tommy Hutchinson and Glenn Smith. Funeral services 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 3, 2017 at Hunter

Danny Marlin Rigsby

Danny Marlin Rigsby, age 69 of Smithville passed away Friday July 28, 2017 at his residence. He was the son of the late Jewel “Red” Brown and Margie Elizabeth Pascal Rigsby. He was also preceded in death by spouse, Chris Ann Rigsby; a grand-daughter, Shanna D. Jones; 3 brothers, James “Jim” Rigsby, Floyd Lynn Rigsby, and Ronald Dean Rigsby. Mr. Rigsby was a mechanic and of the Baptist faith. He is survived by 4 children, Danny Rigsby, Jr., Lisa Lillard, Theresa Williams, and Kimberly A. Patterson; grandchildren, Tisha Barks, Jayna Marlie Rigsby, Morgan Patricia Rigsby, Marylin Lillard, Dustin Allen and Stephen Clark; great-grandchildren, Raelyunne Barks and Raider William Crimm, and Jada Fay Manzano; 2 sisters, Melissa King and Margie Rigsby Miller; 4 brothers, Lloyd Rigsby, Bob Rigsby, Billy Rigsby and Donald Rigsby; sister-in-law, Elaine Rigsby. Many cousins, nieces, and nephews also survive. A graveside service will be 11:00 AM, Tuesday August 1, 2017 at Jefferson Cemetery with Josh Bell officiating. Visitation with the family will be Monday 4:PM until 8:PM and Tuesday 9:AM until 10:30 at which time we will leave to go to the cemetery for the graveside service. Charles Burchfield

Mr. Charles Burchfield age 72, of Smithville passed away Friday, July 28, 2017 at his residence. He was born to his parents the late William Claude and Freddie Opal Manis Burchfield. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a step-grandchild, Brittney Malone; sister, Barbara Linkous and brother, Jerry Burchfield. Mr. Burchfield was a life-long farmer and construction worker and a member of Snow Hill Baptist Church. Survivors include a son, Stacey (Lori) Burchfield of Dowelltown; grandchildren, Ashley (Phillip) Redmon of Smithville, Tiffany Burchfield of Dowelltown, Leah Burchfield of Murfreesboro,; step-grandchildren, Casey and Jared Givens of Smithville; great-grandchildren, Hannah Redmon, Hailey Redmon, Kaylee Redmon, Dacien Redmon, Kenzie South, Lexie South, Chase South, and Tyler Jackson; brothers and sisters, Judy Burchfield, Carolyn Sproles, Brenda Burchfield and Junior Burchfield all of Rogersville, Danny Burchfield of Church Hill, and Linda Price of Surgoinsville.
