Denise Stanton

63 year old Denise Stanton of Woodbury passed away Sunday at her residence. She was a bookkeeper for Scenic Hills Nursery and a member of the Short Mountain Church of God. The funeral will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Gunter-Grizzle Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. and Thursday from 10 a.m. until the service at 1 p.m. Stanton was preceded in death by her father, Milan Daniel; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. R.L. Daniel and Mr. and Mrs. T.C. Underwood; and step-father, Frank R. Morrison. Survivors include her husband of 43 years, Charles Stanton of Woodbury. Two sons, Jamison and wife Jamie Stanton of McMinnville and Jordan Stanton of Spring Hill. Three grandchildren, Hayley Brooke Stanton of Murfreesboro, Sawyer Stanton of McMinnville and James Gooch of McMinnville. Mother, Dorothy Daniel Morrison of Woodbury. Brother, Larry Daniel of McMinnville. Sister-in-law, Jeanette George of McMinnville and Peggy and husband Gary Adcock of McMinnville. Several nieces, nephews, and friends survive. Ms. Hester Magdalene Griffith Joins

Ms. Hester Magdalene Griffith Joins age 90 of Smithville, passed away Friday night, November 3, 2017 at St. Thomas DeKalb Hospital. She was born June 26, 1927 to her parents, the late John Garrison and Effie Evergreen Yeargin Griffith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, W.B. Joins; 4 brothers, Hoyte, Carl, John and Houston Griffith; 2 sisters, Sarah Moss and Elva Wilbert. She was a member of the Banks Cumberland Presbyterian Church and a homemaker. She is survived by her son, Denny (Ceilia) Joins of Lebanon; 2 grandchildren, Brandon (Stephanie) Joins and Derek (Brittainy) Joins both of Gallatin; 1 step-granddaughter, Andrea Sipl of Atlanta; 2 great-grandchildren, Isaac and Cortlynn Joins; several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be conducted 11:AM Monday, November 6, 2017 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Greg Whaley officiating and burial will follow at DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Paul Frank Parton

Paul Frank Parton age 95 of Smithville went home to be with the Lord on Thursday morning, November 3, 2017 at the Whitehouse Health and Rehab. He was born July 30, 1922 to his parents, the late Hall Canady and Willie Florence Hill Parton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jo Taylor Parton; granddaughter, Melissa Hunt; 3 brothers, Sterling, Ralph and Roscoe Parton and 1 sister, Evelyn Vick. He was a Pentecostal, served in the U.S. Army being in WWII and received 2 purple hearts. Mr. Frank was a brick mason. He is survived by his daughter, Shirley (Don) Jones of Bowling Green, KY; 1 granddaughter, Karri (Charlie) Provance of Bowling Green; 5 great-grandchildren, Dusty and Kristi Hunt, Gavin, Olivia and Wyatt Provance; 1 great-great-grandson, Elias Hunt; 1 sister, Marie Waggoner of Murfreesboro and 1 brother-in-law, James Fuson of Nashville. Funeral services will be conducted 1 PM Tuesday, November 7, 2017 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Shirley Jones and Bro. Michael Hale officiating, Military Honors will be conducted by the Veterans Honor Guard and burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery in Murfreesboro. Jane Moss Cantrell

Jane Moss Cantrell age 75 of Smithville, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday 2, 2017 at Centennial Medical Center in Nashville. Jane was born May 16, 1942 to her parents, the late William Henry and Lula R. Moss. She was the co-owner of Cantrell’s Furniture. Granny Jane and Poppy Jerry were also a part of the original founders of DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Granny Jane as she was affectionately known, was a wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She was a woman that was always giving of herself and time to help others. Jane was a member of the Smithville First United Methodist Church. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Jerry Lee Cantrell; 3 children, Shannon (Jeanine) Cantrell, Scott (Tammy) Cantrell, Stacey Cantrell all of Smithville; 5 grandchildren, Chase (Micaela) Cantrell, Macey (Jerimey) Howard, Tiffany (Chris) Odom, Taneah Cantrell and Seth Cantrell; 4 great-grandchildren, Aila and Ashtyn Odom, Brody and Nyla Jane Odom; 2 step-great-grandchildren, Abegayle and Kaia Howard; 1 sister, Janis Moorehead of Smithville, 1 niece, Roann (Jay) Romines. Special caretaker and friend Sherry Brannon and special friend “Einstein”. Funeral Services celebrating her life will be held 2 PM Sunday, November 5, 2017 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bros. David Lee Johnson

69 year old David Lee Johnson of Lascassas died Thursday at St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital. He was born in Knoxville. Johnson was self employed in refrigeration. A graveside service will be Saturday at 3 p.m. at Salem Cemetery. Mark Stinnett will officiate. Visitation will be Saturday from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lyda Smith Johnson and Betty Sue West. Survivors include children, Cassie and Brad Brown of Alexandria, Joshua and Katie Johnson of Lascassas, and Kelley and Derek Carter of Liberty. Gary Scott Sumner

49 year old Gary Scott Sumner of Livingston passed away Wednesday at his residence. He was a construction worker with Rogers Group and he enjoyed doing leather work as a hobby. The family has chosen direct cremation. A memorial service will be Saturday, November 11th at 2pm at the Baxter Church of Christ. Sumner was preceded in death by his parents, Sarah Elizabeth Martin and Bobby Dwaine Sumner. Survivors include a son, Zachary Sumner and fiancée Kayla Demonbreun of Buffalo Valley. A daughter, Ashley and Bradley Ratchford of Colorado. Grandchildren, Brayden Sumner of Buffalo Valley and Paisley Ratchford of Colorado. A sister, Christi Godwin of Texas. Timothy Wayne Lambert

Timothy Wayne Lambert age 30 of Smithville, passed away Saturday October 28, 2017 at his residence. He was born to his parents, Brenda Haney Tatrow and the late Ronnie Wayne Lambert. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Burnace and Elise Lambert and his maternal grandfather, George Willard Haney. Timmy was disabled and was baptized at Friendship Baptist Church. He leaves to cherish his memory, his mother, Brenda Tatrow of Smithville; sister, Lisa Nicole Lambert of Smithville; maternal grandmother, Johnnie Irene Spell of Gainesboro; 1 niece, Morgan Leshay Keel of Smithville; 1 nephew, Cody Ashton Pack of Smithville; 2 aunts, Rhonda Gail Birdwell and Patricia Abner both of Jackson County; 3 uncles, Michael Willard (Elicia) Haney of Gainesboro, Joshua (Teresa) Lane of Sparta, Lynn (Linda) Scruggs of McMinnville; special friend, Gleda Boren and several cousins. There will be a visitation for Timmy on Tuesday, October 31, 2017 from 11 AM until 4 PM. The family will have a memorial service and gathering later at their home to celebrate Timmy’s life. Waltyne Young Cantrell age 74 of the Johnson Chapel Community, passed away Saturday afternoon, October 28, 2017 at St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital in Murfreesboro. She was born December 26, 1942. Ms. Waltyne was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Olen Hurl “Mammy” Cantrell; 2 daughters, Toni Cathey and Cindy Adams; grandson, Gregg Ferguson. Phyllis Elaine Green Roller

Rock Island, TN resident and Warren County, TN native Phyllis Elaine Green Roller, age 71, was born November 19, 1945 and died October 28, 2017 at her residence following an extended illness.
A homemaker and a member of Shellsford Baptist Church, she was the daughter of the late Theopluis Green and Beatrice Rhea Green Page. She was married to Samuel Adams Roller who preceded her in death on February 15, 1981. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by brother, Jim Green.
She is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Paula Roller of McMinnville; four daughters and sons-in-law, Melody and Pat Pharris of Silver Point, TN, and Tracy and Stuart Brown, Thena Edwards and Tony Fuston, and Angie and Michael Ellis all of Smithville, TN; step-father, Arthur Page of McMinnville; sister, Vivian Sinks of McMinnville; grandchildren, Brandy Wilcher of Rock Island, TN, Cory Killian and Hannah Brown of Dowelltown, TN, Josh Roller, Samantha McCormick and Jonathan Beavers all of McMinnville, Cameron Page, Ashlie Edwards and Shawn Edwards, and Austin and Christian Ellis all of Smithville, TN, Sheena Dishman of Nashville, TN, and Shawna Owens of Cookeville, TN; nine great-grandchildren; one uncle, one niece and two nephews; and special thank you to nurse, Lori Betschardt, Camille Campbell and special friend, Randy Bell.

James Willard Dunn

87 year old James Willard Dunn of Smithville died Thursday at NHC of Smithville. He was an Army Veteran who served in the Korean War and a member of the Center Hill Brethren In Christ. He was also a retired carpenter, cabinet builder, and farmer. The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Larry Steffee will officiate and burial will be in the Ponder Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. until the service at 2 p.m. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Helen Pedigo Dunn; wife, Shirley Dunn; and four brothers, Eugene, Lonnie Joe, Olan, and Harley Dunn. Survivors include a brother, William Harvey Dunn of Smithville. Three sisters-in-law, Ella Rhea and Tommy Hale of Alexandria, Sandra and Roger Kirby of Cookeville, and Brenda Colwell of Smithville.
