Jeffrey Ponder

Jeffrey Ponder age 54 of Dowelltown, passed away Wednesday, December 13, 2017 at St. Thomas DeKalb Hospital ER. He was born November 13, 1964 to his parents, Mary Frances Pratt Ponder Smith and the late Frank Eugene Ponder. In addition to his father, Eugene Ponder, Jeff was preceded in death by a sister, Charlotte Evans and step-father, Bill Smith. He was a Baptist and an electrician with Federal Mogul. Survivors include 1 son, Brandon Carpenter of Dowelltown; 1 granddaughter, Kylie Carpenter; mother, Frances Smith; 2 brothers, Danny Ponder of Nashville and Gary Ponder of Dowelltown; 2 step-brothers, Randy Smith of the Blues Hill Community and H.L. Smith of Smithville; 2 step-sisters, Tina Knowles and Angela Bain both of Warren County; several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 PM Saturday, December 16, 2017 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with burial in Burton-Ponder Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be on Friday 3 PM until 8 PM and Saturday 10:AM until the time of the service at 1 PM. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Lillie Mai Lawson

100 year old Lillie Mai Lawson of Smithville passed away Tuesday at NHC of Smithville. She was a member of the Primitive Baptist Church and she was a seamstress. The funeral will be Friday at 1 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Elder Ricky Arnold will officiate and burial will be in the Mt. View Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. and Friday from 10 a.m. until the service at 1 p.m. She was preceded in death by her parents, Waymon and Julia Redmon Young; husband, Clarence Lawson; and ten brothers and sisters. Survivors include a son, Vann and Elaine Lawson of McMinnville. A granddaughter, Twana and Jonathan Green of Smithville. Great grandchildren, Justin and Nicole Atnip of Mt. Juliet and Trista Atnip of Smithville. Great great grandchildren, Brody Atnip of Mount Juliet and Brennan and Jase Atnip and Anniston Davidson all of Smithville. A sister, Ethel Arnold of Smithville. Josephine Graham Hale

Josephine Graham Hale age 84 of Smithville passed away Tuesday, December 12, 2017 at St. Thomas West Hospital in Nashville. She was born August 15, 1933 to her parents, the late John Edward and Fannie Mai Caldwell Graham. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Loyd Hale; brother, Wayne Graham; brothers-in-law, Hoyte Hale and James (Hazel) Hale. She was a faithful member of the Smithville First Freewill Baptist Church, a factory worker, childcare giver and homemaker. She leaves to cherish her memory 2 children, Rickey (Diane) Hale and Mark (Patty) Hale both of Smithville; 7 grandchildren, Chris Hale, Alicia Setzer, Justin Hale, Addison Hale, Brittany Richards, Christina Ferguson and Kaylene Ferguson; 1 sister, Ann (Phillip) Hawkins of Smithville; 2 brothers, Carlon (Melba) Graham of Smithville and Billie (Helen) Graham of Akron, Ohio; sister-in-law, Helen Hale of Smithville; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted 1 PM Friday, December 15, 2017 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bros. Bernard Houk and Dathan Hale officiating and burial will follow in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Jerry Dewayne Evans

Jerry Dewayne Evans age 56 of McMinnville, passed away Sunday night, December 10, 2017 at St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital in Murfreesboro. He was born December 9, 1961 to his parents, the late James F. and Edith Young Evans. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Donna G. Evans. Jerry was a nursery worker. He is survived by 2 step-children, Amanda (Jeremy) Henry of McMinnville and Charles Shannon (Jennifer) Adcock of Smithville; 4 step-grandchildren, Ryan and Ethan Carter, Makenzey Henry and Nate Adcock; 2 brothers, Michael and Phillip Evans. The family has chosen a direct cremation. There will be a Graveside Memorial Service, Thursday, December 14, 2017 at 1 P.M. at DeKalb Memorial Gardens with Bro. Nathan Thomason officiating. There will be no visitation at the funeral home. Family and friends will meet at the cemetery for the service. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements

Freddy Lee Wright

Freddy Lee Wright, age 65 of Rock Island and native of DeKalb County, Tennessee passed from this life on Sunday, December 10, 2017, at his home.
Freddy was born Saturday, July 19, 1952 in Smithville, Tennessee, he was the son of the late Carl Wright and the late Elizabeth Hathaway Wright.
Freddy is survived by his wife – Patricia Wright sister – 1 sister Barbara Fish of Smithville TN. sisters-in-laws – Carolyn Sue Fults and Elaine Passons Wright – special uncle – Lee Denton Wright -several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends also survive.
In addition to his parents, Freddy was preceded in death by his brother Carl Wayne Wright, 3 sisters Marie (Council) Stover, Violet England, and Vada White, sister-in-law, Janie Elizabeth Fuqua.
Funeral service for Mr. Freddy Lee Wright will be at 1:00 PM Tuesday December 12, 2017 at Gradens of Memory Funeral Home with interment in the Old Bybee Chapel Cemetery, Rock Island, TN.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, December 12th from 10 AM to 1 PM at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers the family has ask donations be made to the funeral home to help with funeral expences.

Toledo Byrd

Toledo Byrd age 61 of Dowelltown, passed away Saturday night, December 9, 2017 at her residence. She was born January 10, 1956 to her parents, the late Melvin Edward and Gladys Alberta Adamson Byrd. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Dean Yaney and Vetrice Cook; 1 brother, Clay Byrd; 2 brothers-in-law, Marvin Yaney and Billy Cook, Sr. and 1 sister-in-law, Linda Byrd. Toledo was a Pentecostal and worked as a switchboard operator with the V.A. She is survived by 3 children, Melvin (Shelia) McCloud of McMinnville, Todd McCloud of Smithville and Tolesha Suggs of Sparta; 7 grandchildren, Brett Earls, Tyler, Logan and Lexi McCloud, Conner, Cadance and Jieseyn “Jiebo” Suggs; 2 great-grandchildren, Addyson and Melody Earls; 2 brothers, Jerry Byrd of Dowelltown and Frosty Byrd of Smithville; special caregiver and cousin, Penny Martin and Alexis Bennett; several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be 11 AM Wednesday, December 13, 2017 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Connie Brown officiating and burial will follow in Poplar Hill Cemetery in Watertown. Visitation will be Tuesday 2 PM until 8 PM and Wednesday 9 AM until the time of the service at 11 AM. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Dwight Cantrell

65 year old Dwight Cantrell of Smithville passed away Friday at his residence. He was a Baptist, US Army Veteran, and he was disabled. The funeral will be Monday at 2 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Mike Carpenter will officiate and burial will be in the Young Bend Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 10 a.m. until the service at 2 p.m. He was preceded in death by his father, John Hampton Cantrell, Jr. and two brothers, Doug Johnson and Johnny Cantrell. Survivors include a daughter, Alice and Michael Wills of Alexandria. Three sons, Dwight David and Angela Cantrell of Alexandria, James Patrick and Catherine Cantrell of Brush Creek, and Daniel Johnson of Smithville. Eleven grandchildren. One great grandchild. Mother, Helen and Jewel Johnson of Smithville. Four brothers, Dwayne Cantrell of Alexandria, Benny Cantrell, and Jeff Johnson and Terry Johnson all of Smithville. Seven sisters, Judy and Tony Watson, Nita and Joey Steakley, Tonya Menix, Deanna Brooks, Michelle Snipes, Tammy Cantrell, and Rebecca Cantrell. Lonnie Wayne Daniels age 61 of Alexandria, died Tuesday evening, Dec. 7, 2017 at his residence. Born June 10, 1956 in Gainesboro, TN, he was the son of Vula Brown Daniels and the late Roy Daniels. He was preceded in death by a sister, Carolyn Norris; brother-in-law, J.C. Brewer and a nephew, Loyd Daniels. Lonnie was a member of the Alexandria Church of Christ and a truck driver for 23 yrs. He is survived by his mother, Vula Daniels of Lebanon; wife, Debbie Daniels of Alexandria; children, Terry Wayne Daniels of Chattanooga, Ronnie Ray Daniels of Watertown, Janis Faye (Daniel) Tyree of Statesville; grandchildren, Terry and Jodie Daniels, Jessie Daniels, MaKayla, MaKenna, Mason and Miles Tyree; stepson, Devin French of Florida; stepdaughter, Janet Kyle of Gordonsville; sister, Christine (J.B. 95 year old Modena Page Nokes of Sweetwater passed away Wednesday at Wood Presbyterian Home. She was a Baptist and a homemaker. The funeral will be Sunday at 7 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Royce Martin will officiate and burial will be in Whorton Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 11 a.m. until the service at 7 p.m. Burial will be Monday at 10 a.m. She was preceded in death by her parents, Horace Wade and Sarah Elizabeth Page; her husband, Sam Nokes; and a sister, Larue Redmon. Survivors include a son, Jimmy and Debbie Nokes; a granddaughter, Jennifer and Daniel Keller; a great grandson, Rylan Keller and expectant great granddaughter, Addison Keller all of Sweetwater. 84 year old Mary Judkins Adcock of Smithville passed away at St. Thomas DeKalb Hospital. She was a homemaker and a member of the Mt. Hope The Baptist Church. The funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Bro. Dwight Knowles and Bro. Johnny Adcock will officiate and burial will be in the Jaco Judkins Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from noon until 9 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. until the service at 2 p.m. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, James M. Adcock; parents, Jess and Eva Judkins; a son, Kelvin Adcock; three daughters, Janice Adcock, Deborah Adcock, and Patricia Adcock. Siblings, Earlene Jeffries, Elsie Adcock, Norvell Judkins, Hobert Judkins, Harry Judkins, and John Judkins. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Steve Merz of Smithville. A son, Lee Adcock of Smithville. Four grandchildren, Stephanie and Wayne Reagan of Smithville, Mason Brandt and Daniel Brandt of Murfreesboro, Quinton Adcock of Smithville, and Ashley Brandt of Florida. Nine great grandchildren, Makira Johnson, Ricky Perry, Allie Key, Emma Johnson, Aspen Johnson, Carmen Johnson, Kelvin Reagan, and Brantley Adcock all of Smithville, and Daniel Brandt of Murfreesboro. Two sisters, Gloria Martin of Smithville and Jessie Fleming of Indiana. Two brothers, Lewis Judkins and Frank Judkins of Smithville and several nieces and nephews.
