Hoyte Groom Garrison

86 year old Hoyte Groom Garrison of Alexandria died Saturday at DeKalb Community Hospital. He was a feed store owner and a longtime member and former deacon of Salem Baptist Church. The funeral will be Monday at 3:00 p.m. at Salem Baptist Church. Stephen Grubbs and Graden Kirksey will officiate and burial will be in Salem Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 3-8 p.m. and Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the service time. All visitation will be at Salem Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, John William Garrison and Nannie Watson; a son, William Timothy Garrison; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Delton and Ruth Vanatta. He is survived by his wife of 54 1/2 years, Wilma Lucille Garrison of Alexandria. A son Ronald Hoyte and wife Lisa Garrison of Smithville. Grandchildren, Rachel Elizabeth Garrison and Jessica Brooke Garrison of Smithville and soon to be grandson, John Ethan Hale of Alexandria. Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria is in charge of the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to Salem Baptist Church in his memory.

Ludean Wright

Ms. Ludean Wright age 96 of Murfreesboro and formerly of Smithville passed away Sunday, May 10, 2015 at NHC HealthCare Center in Murfreesboro. She was born December 6, 1918 to her parents, the late George L. and Sallie Miller Beshearse. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Verble Wright; son, Charles Douglas Wright, Sr.; grandson, Charles Douglas “Chuck” Wright; 2 brothers, Virgil and James Beshearse; sister, Lois Hibdon. Ms. Ludean was a member of the Doyle Church of Christ and was a homemaker and she and her husband owned and operated Wrights Supermarket and slaughter house in Smithville and Sparta. Survivors include 3 children, Shirley (Gene) Stone of Montgomery, Texas, Jimmy (Joyce) Wright of Lascassas, Carl L. (Donna) Wright of Tipton, Indiana; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 1 sister, Clara Mae Hawkins of Smithville; Several nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral services will be 3:PM Tuesday, May 12, 2015 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Bobby Wilhite officiating and burial to follow in New Union Cemetery. Kristie Cook Gipson

45 year old Kristie Cook Gipson of Sevierville died Saturday at her residence. She was a housewife and a member of the Church of Christ. The funeral will be Thursday at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Rannie Phillips will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Wednesday from 1-8 p.m. and Thursday from 10 a.m. until the service at 1 p.m. She was preceded in death by a brother, Shannon Cook; grandparents, Nell Judkins, John C. Anderson, Callie Lee Cook, and Clay Cook. She is survived by her husband, David Gipson of Sevierville; her precious dog Bella Mae; three children, Juston and Mary Lohorn of Smithville, Darin and Cheyene Caldwell of Smithville, and Erica and Austin Highers of Smithville. Three grandchildren, Abel Lohorn, Alissa Caldwell, and Cameron Highers; father, Eddie Cook and mother Faye Cook. Seven aunts, Rosie Davis of Liberty, JoDean Dutton of Woodbury, Beatrice Laperouse of Arizona, Wilma and Bob Mykleby of Arizona, Melissa and Danny Pirtle of Smithville, Debbie and Rannie Phillips of Woodbury, and Janie and Paul Armstrong of Smithville. Four uncles, Gene and Dean Cook of Liberty, Doug and Janie Cook of Smithville, John and Barbara Anderson of Georgia and Jimmy Cook of Smithville. Jennifer Cassinera

Jennifer Cassinera, age 40, passed away on Friday, April 24 at her home in Smithville. She was originally from Conway, Arkansas. She was born November 22, 1974 to Roy and Carolyn Head. She was preceded in death by her father Roy E Head and her sister, Polly McAuley. She is survived by her husband, Stephen Cassinera and five children, Timothy Cassinera, David Cassinera, Wendy Cassinera, Emily Cassinera, and Livia Cassinera. She is also survived by her mother, Carolyn Head; a brother, Roy Head; three sisters, Susan Faulk, Lisa Moses, Amy Armond; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Jennifer will be deeply missed. At Jennifer’s request there will be no funeral services.

Jeffrey Kyle Liggett

Jeffrey Kyle Liggett age 54 of Smithville and a native of Lewisburg, TN, passed away Tuesday morning, April 21, 2015 at his brother’s residence. He was born July 28, 1960 to his parents, the late Thomas Harold and Jeanette Hamlett Liggett. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 1 brother, Thomas R. Liggett. Jeff is survived by daughter, Deanne Ray of Hendersonville; 2 sons, David Liggett of Georgia and William Liggett of Lewisburg; daughter, Krystal Cox of Manchester; 9 grandchildren; twin brother, Joe (Karen) Liggett of Smithville; 2 sisters, Sharon (Ron) Sanders and Vickie (Jim) Limbaugh both of Lewisburg, several nieces and nephews also survive. John W. Alford

John W. Alford age 73 of Smithville, passed away Thursday afternoon, April 23, 2015 at DeKalb Community Hospital ER. He was born April 6, 1942 to his parents, the late John Robert and Ludie Inez Baltimore Alford. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Jimmy and Howell Alford. He attended the Bright Hill United Methodist Church and was retired from the city of Smithville. He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Linda Alford of Smithville; 2 sons, Wesley Nathaniel (Cindy) Alford and Sandy Lee (Toni) Alford both of Manchester. One daughter, Christine (Ted) Stoffell of Manchester. Five grandchildren. Four great grandchildren. Two brothers, Leonard (Jean) Alford and Kenneth Alford of Manchester. One sister, Peggy (Richard) Arnold of Manchester. One half brother, Terry (Dale) Shelton of Manchester. Several nieces and nephews and many good friends. The funeral will be Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Wallace Caldwell will officiate and burial will be in Welker Cemetery in Manchester. Geneva Adamson Shoemake

Geneva Adamson Shoemake age 89 of Smithville, passed away Thursday morning at River Park Hospital in McMinnville. She was born March 28, 1926 to her parents, the late Owen and Georgia Adamson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Shoemake and a sister, Frances Muscari. Geneva was a member of New Home Baptist Church, graduate of the Liberty High School and retired from the Metro Nashville Government. She is survived by a brother, John Edward (Shelia) Adamson of Smithville; nephew, Ed (Kerri) Adamson of Brush Creek; 2 cousins, Doris Hullett of McMinnville and Maydel Sandusky of Whitehouse; 2 step-nieces, Martha (Richie) Knowles of Smithville and Mary (Mark) Fritts of Soddy Daisy, TN; and Her wonderful Pet Dog Max. Funeral services for Geneva will be 1:PM Saturday, April 25, 2015 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Mike Clayborn officiating with burial to follow in Salem Cemetery. Patsy Nell Johnson

81 year old Patsy Nell Johnson of Alexandria died Thursday at DeKalb Community Hospital. She was a 30 year employee of the DeKalb County Clerk’s Office and a member of the Mount Zion Baptist Church. The funeral will be Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria. Dan Mallett will officiate and burial will be in the Mount Zion Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from Noon until 8:00 p.m. and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the service. She was preceded in death by her parents, George Clint Reynolds and Louise Reasonover; and a brother, George Clint Reynolds. Survivors include her husband, Jack Johnson of Alexandria. Children, Jackie Johnson, Dave Johnson, Debbie and husband Bennie Curtis, and Donnie and wife Jocelyn Johnson all of Alexandria. Grandchildren, Brandon Johnson, Michelle Overstreet, Jamie Johnson, Clint Johnson, Chad Curtis, Ty Curtis, Jeremie Johnson, and Jennifer Johnson. Willie Lee Rigsby

Willie Lee Rigsby age 88 of Smithville, passed away Tuesday morning at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville. He was born December 12, 1926 to his parents, the late Martin Luther and Sallie Ann Pack Rigsby. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, May Rigsby; son, Dennis Rigsby; brother, Elijah Rigsby and sister, Ruby Cook. Willie Lee was a self-employed used automotive dealer, member of Liberty Lodge #77, member of Spring Street The Baptist Church and was a U.S. Army veteran having served in the Korean Conflict. He is survived by 1 brother, Jackie (Frances) Rigsby of Smithville; daughter-in-law, Lenda Rigsby of Smithville; grandchildren, Shannon (Dale) Garner of McMinnville and Tommy (Susanne) Rigsby of Oregon; great-grandchildren, Piper Rigsby, Steven Garner and Canaan Garner; brother-in-law, Marvin Gooch of Kentucky; sister-in-law, Mary (Robert) Birch of Kentucky; 2 nieces, Vicky Smith and Lori Ann Nokes; 1 nephew, Jackie Darrell Rigsby; special friend, Jimmy Taylor of Smithville. Jack Preston McGuire

80 year old Jack Preston McGuire of Smithville died Friday morning at NHC of Smithville. He was a former truck driver for Pirtle’s Nursery. The funeral will be Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Dan Gulley will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Saturday from 1-9 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. until the service at 2:00 p.m. McGuire was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Della Colvert McGuire; a son, Jack McGuire, Jr.; a grandson, David Crook; a brother, a Dan McGuire; and a sister-in-law, Velma McGuire. Survivors include his wife, Sue Sadler McGuire of Smithville. A son, Eddie and wife Frances McGuire of Smithville. Daughter, Renee and husband Bobby Eldridge of Silver Point. Seven grandchildren, Megan and Jeremiah Jones both of Silver Point, Gavin Eldridge of Cookeville, Grant and Maggie McGuire both of Tullahoma, Austin Rouchefort and Angela Turner both of Smithville. Great grandchild, Toni Lynn Jones of Silver Point. Daughter-in-law, Sheri McGuire of Tullahoma. Sister, Ruth and husband Doston Caplinger of Smithville. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
