Horace Cantrell, Jr.

84 year old Horace Cantrell, Jr. of Smithville died Sunday at NHC Healthcare Center in Smithville. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran and a member of the Mount Hope The Baptist Church. Cantrell was an ordained minister and he served as pastor of the Old Cumberland, Mount Pleasant, Long Mountain, and Spring Street The Baptist Churches. He was also retired from Powermatic. The funeral will be Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. James Wright and Barry Whiteaker will officiate and burial will be in the New Union Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 3:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m.; and Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. He was preceded in death by his parents, Horace, Sr. and Edna Young Cantrell; a son, Rickey Cantrell; brothers, Leslie, Doris, James, Gentry, Fate, Arlie, and Charles Cantrell; and sisters, Effie Head and Jeffie Humphrey. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Maureen Cantrell of Smithville. Two sons, Lonnie Cantrell and Ronnie and his wife Elaine Cantrell all of Smithville. Three grandchildren, Brent and Barry Cantrell and Taylor Miller. Three brothers, Elzie and Billy Cantrell both of Smithville, and Denny Cantrell of McMinnville. Sisters, Ressie Taylor of Smithville, Ethel Redman of McMinnville, and Ruthene of Orlando, Florida.DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
