Linda Sue Osment

58 year old Linda Sue Osment of Smithville died Wednesday at her residence. She was a retired employee of Kingston Timer and a member of the Short Mountain Church of God. The funeral will be Friday at 3:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Gunter-Grizzle Cemetery. She was preceded in death by her father, J.E. Merriman. Survivors include her husband, Joe Osment of Smithville. Two daughters, Gidget and her husband Mark Malone and Ginda and her husband John Kilgore all of Smithville. Two grandchildren, Zach Malone and Kolter Kilgore both of Smithville. Her mother, Georgia Lee Merriman of Smithville. Two brothers, Eddie and Mike Merriman both of Smithville. Paul L. Thiele

70 year old Paul L. “Pete” Thiele of Sparta died Tuesday at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was a native of Mongaup, New York, a retired fire fighter, and a Korean War U.S. Marine veteran. A memorial service will be held Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at the First Methodist Church in Sparta. Larry Burke will officiate. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry H. and Anna Jane Carr Thiele. He is survived by his wife, Dare Thiele of Sparta. Two sons, Wayne Thiele of Glen Spey, New York and Craig Thiele of Brush Creek, Tennessee. One daughter, Donna Rains of Aubrey, Texas. Seven grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and four sisters, Florence Hunt, Deline Norris, Louise Mckerell all of Glen Spey, New York, and Marjorie Bachledar of Belleview, Florida. Mettie Miller Weston

89 year old Mettie Miller Weston of Lebanon died Tuesday at Quality Health Care Center in Lebanon. She was a retired factory worker and a Baptist. The funeral will be Thursday at 1:00p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Bernard Houk will officiate and burial will be in the Banks Cemetery. She was preceded in death by her parents Alfred and Mary Etta Williams Miller, four brothers Luther, Valter, Toy and Orville Miller, and one sister Nettie Kelly. She is survived by one daughter Sue Cunliffe of Nashville, two sons Alfred Reeves, and Giles Weston of Lebanon, eight grandchildren, thirteen great-granchildren, and one sister Velma Hale of Arkansas. Bernice Vance

83 year old Bernice Vance of Smithville and formerly of White County died Saturday at NHC of Sparta. The funeral will be Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Thurman Funeral Home in Sparta. Burial will be in the Lost Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home. Survivors include a daughter, Starla Neely and her husband Kevin of Smithville. Two sons, Ralph Vance and his wife Effie and Ronald David Vance all of Sparta. Two sisters, Grace and her husband Jack Billings of Sparta and Evelyn and her husband Ken Jensen of New Mexico. Thirteen grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren survive. Thurman Funeral Home in Sparta is in charge of the arrangements.

Jessie Bing Smith

93 year old Jessie Bing Smith of Hurlock Maryland and formerly of Smithville died Sunday at Homestead Manor in Denton, Maryland. She was a retired school teacher. The funeral will be Wednesday at 7:00p.m at Zeller Funeral Home in Maryland. Delmer Willey will officiate and burial will follow in Arlington National Cemetery. She was preceded in death by her parents William and Ova Bing. Husbands Tillmon Brownlow “Brown” West, and Aubrey Boyd Smith. Two sisters Bertie Gill, Doris Bing, and one brother W.H. “Dub” Bing. Local survivors include two sisters Betty Smith and Billie Robinson both of Smithville. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Dorothy Edna Skinner

92 Year old Dorothy Edna Skinner of Smithville and formerly of Yorktown,Indiana died saturday at NHC Healthcare Center in Smithville. She was a florist, life time member of the Eastern Star in Dunkirk,Indiana, and a member of the Mt. Talbor United Methodist Church in Dunkirk,Indiana. She was preceded in death by her parents Dallas L. and Edna Vogt Radcliff, husband George I. Skinner. She is survived by two children Darla and her husband Ed Hickman, and James and his wife Elizabeth Wood all of Smithville. One brother Dallas L. Radcliff of Laguna Woods,California. Five grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. Ms. Skinner’s remains have been cremated. There will be a family graveside memorial service at a later date. 95 year old Ruby Ervin Page of Gallatin and formerly of Watertown died Saturday at the Brandywood Nursing Home in Gallatin. She was a DeKalb County native and a homemaker. The funeral will be Monday at 1:00 p.m. at Hunter Funeral Home in Watertown. Burial will be in the Mount Holly Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alton “Bud” Page; a sister, Rosie Durham; and her parents, Felix Ervin and Elsie Hicks Ervin. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Evelyn Page of Franklin. A daughter, Wanda Dodd of Watertown. Five grandchildren, Cynthia Wiltshire of Nashville, Pamela Matlock of Cornersville, Eugene Owen of Atlanta, Buddy Dodd of Norene, and Anthony Dodd of Watertown. 72 year old Lloyd Vanatta of Dowelltown died Wednesday of an extended illness at DeKalb Hospital. He was a carpenter and a painter. The funeral will be Friday at 2:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Dr. Don Mathis will officiate and burial will be in the Snow Hill Baptist Cemetery.

Franklin Delano (Frank) Russell

73 year old Franklin Delano (Frank) Russell of McMinnville died Tuesday at his residence of a short illness. He was born in DeKalb County. Russell was also a security guard at A.O. Smith, a member of Liberty Cumberland Presbyterian Church, past member of the Moose Lodge, and he served in the U.S. Army. The funeral will be Thursday at 1:00 p.m. at McMinnville Funeral Home Chapel. Lanny Johnson and Harry Green will officiate and burial will be in the Jefferson Cemetery in DeKalb County. Military grave rites will be administered by V.F.W. Post 5064 and the American Legion Post 173. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dewey and Frances Adcock Russell; his wife, Louise Scott Russell; a son, Phillip Russell; and a sister, Claudine Young. 64 year old Troy A. Jones, Sr. of McMinnville died Monday in Alabama. He was born in DeKalb County. Jones was a retired coach and educator with the Warren County School System and a member of the Westwood Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Cephas and Mary Grace Cantrell Jones and brothers, Charles, Roger, and Joe Jones. Survivors include his wife, Patsy Jones of McMinnville. A son and daughter-in-law, Chip and Janet Jones of Rock Island. A daughter, Torrye Jones of McMinnville. Daughters and sons-in-law, Angie and Jeff Bandy and Tenara and Kenneth King all of McMinnville. A sister, Billie Grace Estes of Smithville. Two brothers, Gary Jones and Cantrell Jones of Smithville.
