62 year old Joe Ellis Ferrell of Rock Island died Sunday at River Park Hospital of McMinnville. He was retired from Guthrie Nursery and a member of the Covenant Fellowship Baptist Church of Morrison. The funeral will be Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Burial will be in DeKalb Cemetery. He was preceded in death by his parents, Tommy and Vella Young Ferrell; a sister, Gladys Earles; and four brothers, Thomas, Toy, Paul,and J.E. Ferrell. Survivors include his wife, Rachel Johnson Ferrell; Two sons, Joe Howard Ferrell and Mark and his wife, Marsha Ferrrell; and one granddaughter, Gabrielle Elyse Ferrell of Rock Island. Five brothers, Raymond Ferrell of Spencer, Ben Ferrell of McMinnville, Troy Ferrell of Altamont, Johnny Ferrell of Centertown, and Jimmy Ferrell of McMinnville. Thelma Nell Cantrell

77 year old Thelma Nell Cantrell of Smithville, former owner and operator of Houston’s Jewelry, died Monday at NHC Healthcare Center in Smithville. She was a member of the Johnson’s Chapel Freewill Baptist Church. The funeral will be Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Michael Hale will officiate and burial will be in the Johnson’s Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from noon until 9:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 2:00 p.m. She was preceded in death by her husband, Houston Cantrell; her parents, Robert and Mary Ann Johnson Maynard; and two brothers, Howard and Furman Maynard. Survivors include a nephew, Michael Maynard of Sparta. Brothers and sisters-in-law, Hurl and his wife Waltyne Cantrell of Sparta, Magdalene Cantrell of Smithville, Brenda and her husband R.V. Jeffrey Lynn (Mutt) Wilson

42 year old Jeffrey Lynn (Mutt) Wilson of Smithville died Friday at DeKalb Hospital of an extended illness. He was a Cannon County native, a member of the Smithville Church of God, and a maintenance worker at Richland Retirement Home. The funeral will be Monday at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Woodbury Funeral Home. Greg Mitchell will officiate and burial will be in the Jones Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 10:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. He was preceded in death by his mother, Floy D. Wilson; his father, Henry Hibdon; and his brother, Charles Wilson. Survivors include sisters, Emma Conatser of Smithville, Faye and her husband Ronnie Bedwell, Betty Duke, Debra Campbell, and Crystal Robinson all of Woodbury. Fermon Brown Culwell

79 year old Fermon Brown Culwell of Smithville died Saturday at his residence. He was a self employed nurseryman and he attended the Old Fashion Free Will Baptist Church. Culwell was also a U.S. Navy and Army Veteran and served during the Korean War time. The funeral will be Monday at 11:00 a.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Bonham Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.; Sunday, from 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m.; and Monday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elijah and Lera Summers Culwell; his wife, Ravanell Culwell; a brother, Boyd Culwell; and a sister Evie Colwell. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Deborah Culwell of Smithville. A grandson, Tommy and his wife Erin Culwell of McMinnville. 18 year old Matt Bates of Smithville died Thursday at Vanderbilt Hospital. He was a member of the Smithville First Free Wil Baptist Church. The funeral will be Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. David Young and Mark Kennedy will officiate and burial will be in the Bonham Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Sunday from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Boyd Culwell and his paternal grandparents, Homer and Juanita Bates. Survivors include his mother, Deborah Bates; his father Tony Bates; a sister and brother-in-law, Jennifer and Luke Judkins; his grandmother, Linda Culwell; a niece and a nephew, Faith and Eli Judkins all of Smithville. Modena Hancock Fuston

78 year old Modena Hancock Fuston of Woodbury died Saturday of a sudden illness. She was a native of Warren County and the daughter of the late Norman Buel (N.B.) and Lila Martin Hancock. The funeral will be Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Woodbury Funeral Home. Carl Witty, William Timothy Hill, and David Arnold will officiate and burial will be in the Bethany Cemetery. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Kathie Fuston of Columbia; two grandsons, Bert and Brent Couch of Columbia and caretaker, Wanda Farless of Woodbury. Jim Gantzer

62 year old Jim Gantzer of Smithville died Wednesday at his residence. He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran and a steam fitter. He was preceded in death by his parents, James H. and Gertrude M. Hay Gantzer. Mr. Gantzer’s remains have been cremated. There will be no visitation or services held. Survivors include his wife, Kathy Gantzer of Smithville. Five children, Todd Gantzer of Boston Massachusetts, Jamie Gantzer of Smithville, Todd Zimmerman of Boston Massachusetts, Terri Hockenberry of Lockport, New York, Tamara Dragon of Mocksville, North Carolina. Seven grandchildren and an uncle, Phillip Becker of Cumming, Georgia. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Robert Eldon Robinson

81 year old Robert Eldon Robinson of Smithville died Tuesday at Spencer Generations. He was a Baptist and a retired employee of the DeKalb County Landfill. A graveside service will be held Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. at Salem Cemetery at Liberty. Junior Hibdon will officiate. He was preceded in death by his parents, Williams Floyd and Clara Macon Bluhm Robinson and a sister, Lois Barber. Survivors include a daughter, Linda Barber of Smithville. Two grandsons, Danny Barber of Cookeville and Scotty Barber of Smithville. One great grandson, James Dillion Barber of Smithville. One step-daughter, Julie Van Bomel. One step-son, Kenneth Lee and three step grandchildren all of McMinnville. Two ex wives, Ann Robinson Smith of Smithville and Mary Belle Robinson of McMinnville. 90 year old Mary Frances Anderson of the Cottage Home community died Wednesday at Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville. She was born in Wilson County, a homemaker, graduate of Auburntown High School, and a faithful member of the Cottage Home FCE. The funeral will be Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the Prosperity Baptist Church, where she was a member. Thurman Seber and Ricky Scott will officiate and burial will be in the Prosperity Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home. She was the daughter of the late Hudson and Maude Foutch Jennings. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Murrel T. Anderson, Sr. She is survived by a son, Murrel T. Anderson, Jr. and his family of Jackson, Mississippi; a brother-in-law, Ernest Anderson and his wife, Jackie of Cottage Home; and several nieces and nephews. 64 year old Doris Carolyn Foster Hayes of Smithville died Thursday at her residence. She was a secretary at Dell Computers in Lebanon, and a member of the Whorton Springs Baptist Church, where she was also a Sunday School Teacher. The funeral will be Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. James Williams and Dave Mahan will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Sunday until the time of the service at 1:30 p.m.. She was preceded in death by her father, Edward Foster. Survivors include her husband, Kenneth Hayes; One son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Angie Foutch; Two daughters, Jamie Woodside and Renee and her husband Ricky Hendrixson; and her mother, Nettie Jim Foster all of Smithville.
