Mary Jane “Janie” Carpenter

Mary Jane “Janie” Carpenter, age 91, of Liberty, went to be with the Lord, October 10th 2017. A memorial service will be held to honor her memory, 2pm, Sunday the 15th of October at Whorton Springs Baptist Church. She was born in Dallas Texas but lived in many different places in her life including: Ashville NC, Clovis New Mexico, Damascus Virginia and Ft. Lauderdale FL to name a few. She was a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ and a member of Indian Creek Baptist Church. She loved the Lord and also loved having bibles studies in her home over the years. She loved to travel and in that endeavor loved traveling the highways and byways of the countryside, in her early years in her favorite car, a 1957 MGA roadster and later years in her RV she affectionately called the “Hen House”. She was a homemaker early in life and became a career medical professional working in many hospitals retiring as a registered Histologist. Her hobbies included, reading, house-looking, antiquing, old clocks and taking care of her cats and farm animals (mostly cows of which she named). Her exploits in life included, motorcycling, flying, boating, sailing, scuba diving, spear fishing, horseback riding, shooting and camping. She could tune up her car, change her own oil and do things that were uncommon for a “lady” of her day as she lived a life that was “Out of the Box”. Her fraternal connection was that of the Order of Eastern Star of Smithville for 27 years. She was preceded in death by her father, Walter Harland Wright, mother, Mary Virginia (Robinson) Wright, a sister, Roselyn (Wright) Powell, and brother, Walter Harland Wright, Jr. Her survivors include two daughters, Melody (Carpenter) Jaquinta and Karon Sue Carpenter, three sons, James Biggerstaff, Craig Carpenter and Michael (Mary Anne) Carpenter, grandchildren, Michael Christian (Debra) Carpenter, Matthew (Alex) Carpenter, a great-granddaughter Molly Carpenter and a special friend and former caregiver Audry Martin. Her family also wishes to thank all the staff at NHC Smithville for their exceptional love and care.
