80 year old Mentie Elizabeth Atnip of Smithville died Thursday at DeKalb Community Hospital. She was a Baptist and a factory worker. The funeral will be Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Burial will be in Mount Holly Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 10:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Atnip was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Lillie Frances Young; three sisters, and five brothers. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Auval Atnip of Smithville. One son, Austin Eugene and wife Jean Atnip of Keltonburg. Four daughters, Brenda Gail and husband Ricky Adams of Lebanon, Patricia Ann Wright of Lebanon, Mairene and husband Tracy Bowman of Lebanon, and Sherry and husband Terry O’Neil of Gordonsville. Eleven grandchildren, twenty one great grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren. One brother, Nelson Young of Smithville. Two sisters, Thelma Evans of Smithville and Imanell Venetta of Dowelltown. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
